In the modern manufacturing industry, CNC machining centres are widely used in the processing of various parts due to their high precision, high efficiency and high level of automation. CNC machining centres can be divided into three-axis, four-axis and five-axis according to the number of motion axes.



Three-Axis CNC Machining Centres: Basics and Efficiency

Three-axis CNC machining centres are the most traditional machining centres that include three linear motion axes, X, Y, and Z. They are suitable for most conventional grinding, drilling, and cutting operations. Three-axis machines excel at handling flat parts and simple three-dimensional parts, but can be limited when working with complex surfaces.



Four-axis CNC machining centres: increased flexibility

Four-axis CNC machining centres add an axis of rotation in three axes, usually axis A or B. This allows the machine to rotate the workpiece during machining, enabling more complex geometries. Four-axis machines are suitable for machining parts with bevel or specific angle requirements.


Five-axis CNC machining centres: solutions for complex machining

A five-axis CNC machining centre consists of three linear axes (X, Y, Z) and two rotary axes (two of A, B, or C). This configuration provides a very high degree of machining flexibility, allowing machining at almost any angle in a clamp. Five-axis machines are particularly suitable for machining complex spatial surfaces, moulds and aerospace components.



What are the differences between them?

Three-axis, four-axis and five-axis CNC machining centres have their own unique advantages and applicable fields. The three-axis CNC machining centre is suitable for processing relatively simple parts, with low cost and simple operation. The four-axis CNC machining centre adds a rotating axis on the basis of the three-axis, which can be processed on multiple axes and is suitable for processing complex parts. The five-axis CNC machining centre has five-axis movement and can carry out all-round processing, which is suitable for machining parts with high complexity and high precision requirements.
